Karena has made a conscious decision to live as sustainably as possible. She has been a vegetarian for 30 years, organically grows her own fruit and vegetables, buys locally, and is a contributing member of The World Wildlife Federation, The Wilderness Committee and World Vision. A life long commitment to education and a belief that all things are possible through dedication are some of the foundations for Karena’s life.

Karena studied Architecture at Camosen College while pursuing a career in Residential Lighting Design. She also has a Diploma in Theatre from UCFV and studied English at VIU. She plays the piano, guitar and has recently taken to learning the violin. Other interests include painting in oils and ocean kayaking. She co-owns a local construction business with her husband where they work together to share their love of Design and all things Green. She is an active member of local community theatre and every summer she participates in an outdoor Shakespearean production. She has lived on Salt Spring Island for the last 10 years while raising her 2 young children.
